Electronic—Electronic Return Originator Option

Electronic Return Originators (EROs) are the Authorized IRS e-file Providers that originate the electronic submission of a return to the IRS.

The EROs are usually the first point of contact for most taxpayers filing a return using IRS e-file.

Many EROs charge a fee.

EROs include:

• Certified public accountants (CPAs)
• Tax attorneys
• IRS Enrolled Agents (individuals who are registered with the IRS)
• Tax preparation businesses
• VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites free of charge
• TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) sites free of charge
• AARP Foundation Tax-Aide (Tax-Aide) sites free of charge
