Activity 2: Lobbyist for a Day

Four doors, which represent your state representative, your organization, your opponent, and the media.

Lobbyists are spokespeople for organizations, such as corporations, industries, unions, or local communities. They work to influence lawmakers' decisions about issues, including taxes. Put yourself in the role of a lobbyist for the widget industry. Lately, widgets have been losing market share to cheap imitations from overseas. Your state has the largest widget factory in the world--its economy would suffer if the factory had to close. Your goal is to convince your state representative to support tariffs on widgets manufactured overseas.

The four doors above represent your state representative, your organization, your opponent, and the media and are labeled accordingly. Use the drop-down menu to match each door to the comment that you would most likely hear upon entering the room. Then click the Check My Answers button at the bottom of the page.
