Methods for Computing Self-Employment Tax

Three Methods

There are three ways to compute self-employment tax:

• Regular Method: Used by most taxpayers
• Nonfarm Optional Method: Used by taxpayers who need additional quarters of credit to get Social Security benefits
• Farm Optional Method: Not covered in VITA training
