Computing the Estimated Tax

Use the worksheet in Form 1040-ES to compute the estimated self-employment tax. Taxpayers should record payments to help verify the payments reported on Form 1040-SS at the end of the year. The record should include:

  • Date of payment
  • Amount of payment
  • Credits for the amounts carried over from prior years
  • Net payment due for each installment
